Soroptimist International of Anderson was chartered in 1953. Our membership includes a diverse group of dynamic women and our first SoroptiMister committed to improving the lives of women and girls both locally and throughout the world as part of Soroptimist International of the Americas.
Club’s Activity Highlights
Jump Start Home Store – Through a grant, the Jump Start Home Store was created to help women transition from a local domestic violence shelter to independent living by supplying the basic supplies needed to get started in their new home.
Willow Place – Willow Place was the first local women’s homeless shelter that provided temporary housing for women who were living on the street in Anderson and surrounding areas. By providing food and lodging, these women are able get basic needs met. It has since grown to provide resources and services to create a path back to independence. As a club, we support this shelter in a variety of ways from providing a home cooked meal to donating items greatly needed to continue their mission.
Education Awards – Each year, our club participates in the Live Your Dream awards program by awarding top applicants who qualify through the program’s guidelines. In addition to the LYD, each year we award a high school student a scholarship through our local Community Foundation through an endowment. Recently, we started a club level award inspired by a passionate past member. This award is given to one woman who must be nominated by a current club member who also maintains a mentoring relationship after the award is given.
Club Meetings – Club meetings are held on the last Tuesday of every month (except June and December). The meetings are held at 6:00 PM at The Church of the Brethren in Anderson, IN.
