      <image:title>Meet the Board - ruth waggoner - Governor</image:title>
<image:caption>I am Ruth Waggoner and I have been a Soroptimist member of Kenton/Hardin County since 2007. I was invited to a meeting, not knowing what Soroptimist was even about. Since becoming a member of Kenton/Hardin County, I have held the offices of Treasurer, Vice President, President, Club Delegate, served on many club committees. I served as the Regional Dream It Be It Chair, District II Director, Governor Elect and now the 2026-2028 Governor. Since I became a Soroptimist, I have made many friends and traveled to places I never thought I would go. Most importantly, it has allowed me to grow as a person, to become strong and confident, and to stand up for what I am passionate about; helping women and girls feel the same way, so their dreams can come true. Being on the Midwestern Regional Board has been a great opportunity for me. There is so much to learn, but most importantly, the many friendships you make are amazing. My husband Bill and I are retired from farming, I also worked and retired from Huntington National Bank. We have five children and eleven grandchildren who keep us busy. We are very blessed and proud of who they have become. We love to travel and we are very active in our church. I am so glad I became a Soroptimist!!</image:caption>

She is also a Stargazer and a member of the Laurel Society. Kellie has worked as a Legal Assistant for various law firms for 40 years and is looking forward to retiring in September 2026. <image:title>Meet the Board - Becky Mentzer - District I director</image:title>
<image:caption>Becky Mentzer looks forward to her term as District 1 Director, especially visiting clubs in the district and sharing and learning together how we can fulfill the mission to help local women and girls in our communities. Becky became a member of SI-Bloomington-Normal in 2018 because the mission of Soroptimists resonated with her in many ways that played out in her career. As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), she helped women as a vocational counselor, addictions therapist, and professional development trainer. She also worked at both Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University as an academic advisor, instructor, and career counselor. Once she retired she focused her time and talents on volunteer and service opportunities. Becky served as President of SIBN from 2020-2022 and handled the Virginia Wagner and Live Your Dream awards programs. She continues to find great joy and passion as Program Chair by getting the word out about Soroptimist, and our Dream It, Be It program through her interaction with community partners and involving them to work alongside SIBN members. She is quite excited about the UpliftHER initiative and looks forward to sharing those uplifting experiences and hearing what other clubs in the district are doing! Please call, email or text - remember, we're better together! Becky and her husband, Rob, have been married 49 years and have three grown children, eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. They enjoy spending time with their family, traveling, and walking trails. In her downtime, Becky also loves to knit, crochet, and read.</image:caption>

Laura graduated from the Ohio State University in 2001 with a BA in English. She then went on to serve in the US Peace Corps (RPCV/Bangladesh ’03-’05) before returning home to work in the family business. <image:title>Meet the Board - Karrie Blankenship - District III Secretary</image:title>
<image:caption>Karrie Blankenship has been a member of Soroptimist International of Grosse Pointe (SIGP) since 2009 and, over the past 17 years, has taken on a wide range of leadership roles at both the club and regional levels. Her long-standing service reflects a strong commitment to the organization’s mission of improving the lives of women and girls through education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Within SIGP, she has served as President, President-Elect and Program Chair, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Public Awareness Chair, and Director twice. She also chaired the Women’s Opportunity Award, now known as the Live Your Dream Award, as well as the Violet Richardson Award, and co-chaired the Virginia Wagner Educational Award. In recognition of her dedication and impact, she received SIGP’s Ann Cunningham Outstanding Soroptimist Award. SIGP’s Human Trafficking Awareness program inspired her to become a Soroptimist and strengthened her dedication to service in her role as chair of her club’s Human Trafficking Awareness Committee. A committed advocate for women’s rights she has: *Directed three 5K fundraising races benefiting nonprofits that support trafficking survivors. *Coordinated public panel discussions to raise awareness and foster community conversation. *Interviewed professionals working on the front lines of anti-trafficking efforts. *Created the educational video 2021: Insights on Human Trafficking. One of her proudest accomplishments was having a poster she designed on SIGP’s human trafficking awareness efforts selected for display at the 2023 Soroptimist International Convention in Dublin, Ireland. Since then, she has led a five-year action plan for the SI of Grosse Pointe and SI of Greater Macomb Human Trafficking Awareness Committee, helping guide continued education, outreach, and action in this critical area. At the regional level, she has served as editor of The Vision newsletter, Public Awareness Chair, and a member of the nominating committee. These roles have allowed her to support communication, leadership development, and broader regional engagement. She says, “Collaborating with like-minded women has enriched my life and created lasting friendships. Now that my club presidency is behind me, I am ready for new challenges and opportunities as District III Secretary.”</image:caption>

Amy joined Soroptimist after being introduced to the club by a friend, then was encouraged to become District 4 Secretary by former Governor Vicky Hicks. Amy is a true giver, with a heart for volunteering and serving. Amy recently retired after working as a lab supervisor for 34 years and now spends her days helping to take care of her grandchildren. She is active in her church, serves as a board member at a local community center and after school program, and enjoys traveling with husband Shawn. In her spare time Amy likes to read, loves to cook and enjoys completing the Wordle puzzle every day. Amy says, “ I have had so many new experiences since joining the MWR Board, and made many friends all across the region. What we Soroptimists do is important work and I am honored to be a part of making a difference.”</image:caption>
