“S CLUB” OF MONROE
The Monroe High School’s “S Club” from Monroe, MI, has been meeting every other week since school started and their membership has grown to 30 -35 members under the advisory of Katelyn Martin, Monroe High teacher.
Club President, Olivia McDonald and Secretary, Jillyan Misiak appeared on “Monroe Alive”, a local television show broadcast on the public access channel. The ladies did an excellent job of explaining the goals and mission of “S Club”.
The major project for the “S Club” is their “Fill the Purse” project where they collect new and slightly used purses to fill with toiletries for the women’s shelters. The membership’s future plans include developing and stocking a “clothes closet” where other less fortunate students can come to find gently used or new items to supplement their wardrobe.
The members support their projects by selling a sweet treat called “Puppy Chow” to fellow students. They use the club meeting time to mass produce the “Puppy Chow” and then sell it out of Mrs. Martin’s classroom closet.
Soroptimist International of Monroe is extremely proud of the youth of our community and the dedication and compassion of the “S Club” membership is a shining example of the future generation of Soroptimist members. Anyone interested in donating purses for the “Fill the Purse” project can send items to the “S Club Monroe” c/o United Way of Monroe County, 216 N. Monroe St. Monroe, MI 48162.
