February Headliners
Soroptimist International of Fremont
Soroptimist International's Biennial Convention "Salute to Nations"

Midwestern Region's Soroptimist International of Fremont OH is to be honored at Soroptimist's 2012
Biennial Convention. During this  meeting to be held in Hawaii convention leadership  will present a slide
show entitled  "Salute to Nations."

This presentation will feature club projects or past award recipients from each nation. SI-Fremont OH's
T.R.A.P.(Teen Relationship Abuse Prevention) program  is to be honored in representing Soroptimist clubs
in the United States. Fremont's President Pam Hufford says  "Each and every member of this club has
had a part in this project and all should  be very proud" (of this distinction).

Upon learning of the conference slide show, District IV Director Vicky Hicks lauds the Fremont club members
for their growing  and ongoing dedication and project priorities which have strengthened their club, their
associations with community partners, as they work to improve the lives of women ang girls.

The July
convention presentation follows the club's recent Celebrating Success honors awarded to the club. among
28 federations and its recognition in capturing top honors Federation's Renaissance Program Award.

In the midst of the excitement of the announcement of their selection, this month club members will be
redoubling their efforts to compile project information, photos, news coverage, and documentation to include
in the slide show segment.

Additionally Fremont's club leadership will be preparing for their Midwestern Region Spring Conference
workshop highlighting their initiatives and best practices.

MWR Kudos to all our members in Fremont and their community partners who
have excelled in creating this meaningful project, taking public awareness initiatives
through community and regional localities outreach. We all look forward to
Fremont's segment of the Soroptimist salute.

Hawaii's beautiful weather aside, the honor of being present to view the slide presentation
and participte  in sharing details of the project are  two stellar reasons for all Midwestern Region
Soroptimists to consider and plan to attend the summer convention. Our region
traditionally has between 12 and 25 attendees. We'd be proud to honor Fremont's
efforts in person with a still larger delegation.

December 4, 2011, President Taeko Kitamura, Soroptimist International of Hikone, Japan, and President Mary Ellen
Burke,Soroptimist International of Grosse Pointe Michigan, made the friendship link alliance between the two clubs
offical in an historic signing ceremony. President Taeko and Hikone's delegation are, according to Lori Blair, SIA

MWR Soroptimist members from several clubs greeted their delegation, participated in the reception/dinner in Grosse
Pointe. Members exchanged information about Soroptimist and exchanged friendship gifts. Official signing pens were
also used to commemorate the event.

Hikone is a sister city to Ann Arbor, MI.   It is the home of the Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU),

study of Japanese language and culture,  as well as courses in English for the citizens of Shiga Prefecture. It is the
oldest such relationship between a US state and Japanese prefecture.  SI Grosse Pointe was invited to be a friendship
